When creating a new QR code and mobile campaign using pbSmartTM Codes software, you have the option of choosing four different media types. No matter which media you select, you will be guided through the process of creating an end-to-end marketing campaign that involves: creating a QR code, creating a mobile page, and tracking the scan results.

Starting with the tab: Create QR Code & Mobile Campaign, you will see icons for the four media types:

1. QR Code only. This option allows you to create and download a QR code for use in your media that you create on your own, such as postcards, product labels, or "take-ones". For more information, see the video Downloading a QR Code and Adding It to Media.

2. Posters. These offer you a chance to prominently display your QR code and promotional messaging. Posters are great for placing in the windows of retail businesses and restaurants, or at events and public venues.

3. Yard Signs. These allow you to promote your business or message in specific outdoor locations. These are great for political campaigns, allowing you to reach into specific neighbourhoods with your message; and for realtors, allowing you to provide detailed information on homes for sale.

4. Flyers. These can be used in a number of different ways, from simple hand-outs, to pin-ups in prominent places, to direct mail campaigns. Sample business uses include a list of hair salon services; restaurant take-out menus; and business information leave-behinds.

What each media has in common is the chance to combine your physical marketing materials (print, outdoor, etc.) with your digital marketing message. A powerful combination!

Using pbSmart Codes Media Templates: Creating a Poster

In this example, we'll use pbSmart Codes to create a poster and a mobile web page.  The process is similar for the other three media types (QR code only, Lawn Signs, and Flyers).

Start on the Create QR Code & Mobile Campaign page to begin the four-step process.

Step 1: Click the Poster icon and then enter a memorable, descriptive name for your new campaign in the text box provided.  If you want to add this campaign to a group of similar campaigns, you can create a group name and add your campaign to this group using the drop-down menu Add to Group. Click Next.

Step 2: Here you will customize the poster itself, including the look-and-feel as well as the messaging. First, choose a background design from the list of categories and templates provided. For example, if you operate a steakhouse and wanted to promote a "wine-tasting Wednesday" dinner, you could start by clicking the Food category, and then scrolling the list of templates to select a background that features an image of a steak and a wine glass.

Once you have selected the background, you will be prompted to complete the poster design by uploading a logo (optional), and entering text for the poster headline, supporting text, and call-to-action. You can enter this information by clicking the gray bars on the right-hand side of the screen, or by clicking directly within the poster preview on the left.  As you enter the text you have a number of formatting options to customize your poster, including the font, text size, colors and text alignment. Hint: Make sure your call-to-action text provides a clear and compelling reason to scan your QR code! When you are happy with the design you can either click the Save For Later button (if you're not yet ready to create your mobile page or order the poster), or click the Done Editing button to proceed to the next step.

Step 3:  Now you will create a customized mobile web page that customers will see after scanning the QR code on your poster.

First, select one of three different campaign types.  Each provides different options for your mobile page, tailored to the type of marketing initiative you are promoting. Coupon-based campaigns allow you to share redeemable coupons and discounts, event-based campaigns give you options for event registration, and information-based campaigns let you link to a wide variety of other sites and information formats.  For this example, we will click the Coupon icon to provide customers with a coupon for wine-tasting Wednesdays.

Next you will customize the Headline, which is the basic header section of your page and features format-able text and an optional image.  You can also choose a background-color for your mobile web page by clicking the Theme icon below the image of the mobile phone on the left. Use the magnifying glass icon to see a full preview of your mobile page.  The Campaign Message area is the main body of your mobile web page.  This section includes several components: the background, the overlay, the message, and an email capture section.  For the background, you can choose any image that you have uploaded to your image library, or upload a new one.  The overlay allows you to add emphasis to your message - chose from a number of optional "clip out" style overlays. Enter your message using the text box provided, taking advantage of the formatting options to make it look just right. The optional email capture section allows you to request that customers enter their email address, giving you the chance to build your customer list with qualified leads.

The final step in the design of your mobile page is to select the buttons you would like to present to customers.  Here you have the options of including buttons that link to another web page, a phone number, an email address, a Youtube video, or a Twitter or Facebook page. If you are using the Standard or Professional versions of pbSmart Codes, you can also link to a mobile survey to gather information from customers. In this example, we'll include a phone number for customers to call for restaurant reservations. You can use the magnifying glass icon to preview the page just as customers will see it after scanning your QR code.

Step 4: Once you have finished creating your poster and mobile web page, you are ready to place an order for your posters and launch the mobile web portion of your campaign. Remember, you can always come back and make changes to your mobile web page any time after launching the campaign. This way you can adjust your campaign message and offers without having to create new posters!  For more information, please see our how-to video: "Changing Your Mobile Page in an Active Campaign."
